Texas' Hamilton, Thompson, Joseph Entering Draft

Apr 22, 2011 8:16 PM

Tristan Thompson, Jordan Hamilton and Cory Joseph have all declared for the 2011 NBA draft.

Hamilton plans to hire an agent and forego his final two seasons of collegiate eligibility, but Thompson and Joseph will not, which means they may retain their eligibility if they withdraw their names by May 8.

With this departure (and if Thompson and Joseph do indeed leave), Rick Barnes loses his entire starting lineup, which consisted of Hamilton, Thompson, Joseph and graduating seniors Dogus Balbay and Gary Johnson.

Fresno State Hires Recruiting Ace Away From Texas

Apr 8, 2011 9:58 AM

Rodney Terry was named the new Bulldogs men's basketball coach Thursday.

"I didn't want to just take some job just to be a head coach," Terry said. "I wanted the right job. Fresno State is the right job."

Terry, 43, spent the past nine years as an assistant under Rick Barnes at Texas. Before that, it was four seasons at North Carolina-Wilmington and two at Baylor.

At each stop, recruiting was his primary responsibility. Terry said he will continue to chase elite talent to bring to Fresno State.

"The same guys that UCLA, USC wants, those'll be the same guys that we'll try to go after," Terry said. "When you're trying to win your conference and dominate, you always want to play or recruit to the level above."

Daniel Gibson of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Dexter Pittman of the Miami Heat and current Longhorns players and McDonald's All-Americans Cory Joseph and Tristan Thompson are among the players whom Terry played a key role in recruiting to Texas.

Sullinger Wins Pomeroy's Player Of The Year Award

Apr 7, 2011 6:23 PM

Statistical wizard Ken Pomeroy crowned Ohio State’s Jared Sullinger the tempo-free player of the year.

Sullinger posted a 120.4 offensive rating while using 27% of the Buckeyes’ possessions while he was on the floor. The Buckeyes’ center also ranked in the top 50 nationally in both offensive and defensive rebounding percentage, and fouls drawn per minute.

Pomeroy calculates his rankings using offensive rating and possessions used, as well as Dean Oliver’s measure of individual defensive stops.

UConn’s Kemba Walker (.521), BYU’s Jimmer Fredette (.487), Duke’s Nolan Smith (.472), Purdue's JaJuan Johnson (.450), San Diego State's Kawhi Leonard (.421), Wisconsin's Jon Leuer (.419), Texas' Jordan Hamilton (.401), Wisconsin's Jordan Taylor (.391), and Kentucky's Terrence Jones (.390) rounded out the top ten.

NBA Decision Makers Question Jordan Hamilton's Focus

Apr 6, 2011 10:40 AM

NBA decision makers are concerned about the questionable focus of Texas wing Jordan Hamilton.

One scout rates Hamilton a risky pick despite obvious offensive skills, while an executive from another team said, "You don't know where his head is all the time."

An athlete who can score like Hamilton and has range on his jumper would usually be a lock for the lottery, especially in a weak Draft, but he continues to give the NBA reasons for concern.

Hamilton is prone to rushed shots and lapses on the defensive end.

He was a unanimous All-Big 12 selection.
